Classes are 2 nights per week and Saturday mornings.
Classes are normally 6:30 - 9:30 PM.
Labs are to be scheduled.

Small Business Management and Artist Management
This course gives students a practical approach to setting up a small music related business in the entertainment industry. Topics will include establishing and writing the business plan, establishing accounting and cash management systems for the business, and the overview of Federal and State regulations that apply.

Students will be introduced to all aspects of artist management as they are related to
the music /entertainment industry. Issues that will be dealt with will include the establishment of the artist manager relationship, planning the artist's career, matching the right artist with the right manager, and creating an effective career plan.

Record Company Operations and Music Marketing & Promotion
The Art and Business of running an independent record company. The class examines novel approaches for utilizing the Internet as a broadcasting and marketing medium. Surveys efficacy of individual artist sites, advertising at entertainment industry portals and new means of fan-base building with web technologies. The course will also cover how to manage your intellectual property rights on the web. Key methods and practices relating to music industry public relations and promotion. The students will learn some of the basic aspects of public relations in terms of print media, image projection, publicity, and record promotion. Understanding record promotion as it relates to air play success gives students a strong foundation in public relations strategies and practices.

Legal Aspects of Music Industry (Contracts, Licensing, Copyrights, Publishing)
The course will give the student the ability to discern how music industry contracts create a link between the various components of the record industry, as well as helping the student develop a basic vocabulary of legal terms that are commonly used in order to better understand the industry. Covers artist management contracts and record contracts how copyright income is determined. This course will also cover the intricacies of music licensing via traditional and new media models.
